Find difficult work that you enjoy.

Comments

Hmm... I think work is one of the least difficult things in my life.
We should make our Robot Co-op work more difficult, don't you think?
I know we're not "supposed" to talk about failure, but I think for something to be both difficult and enjoyable, failure has to be possible, acceptable, and meaningful.

I totally agree.
Maybe after we have the I Did It page we need an I Didn't Do It page.
I'm a weirdo in that I like difficult things. They attract me like a moth to a flame. I get bored with things i know I can do or that i find easy.

And I'm totally with Laurel (Go Laurel!) - I'm turned on by difficultly as its difficult things that guarantee a chance to fail and learn. If I'm unlikely to fail at something, I'm unlikely to learn anything in the experience. So my mind tends to wander elsewhere.

(btw: Thx for the mention)

One book recommendation is Mastery. It is vaguely a self-help book, but it's mostly about patterns for how people get good at things. It's well written and a short read.

I don't think you're a weirdo in that sense. I think if pretty much anybody really tried to determine what their ideal life was that they'd choose a component that involved hard work. Unless they're burned out and can only think about grabbing a chance to relax.

Thanks for the book recommendation too... I'm totally getting that today. I actually sort of love self-help books, seeing as how I am tangentially in the field myself with 43 Things.

Our conversation at Septieme still stands out in my mind as one of my favorite conversations in recent memory. Keep me updated on anything new you've got.
